The Senior QA Tester is responsible for creating and executing more complicated test cases based upon the designs provided by the Director of IT Services. The primary objective of this position is to assume responsibility for defect containment and software testing by crafting data, procedures and creating and executing test cases that ensure that the defined level of coverage is achieved, and sufficient errors are uncovered. Emphasis will be placed upon test inventories ensure the Kortext level of quality is maintained.

Senior Application Testers are expected to work effectively with the Director of IT Services, Development, Project Management, Business Analysts, and other members within a vertical team to ensure their implementation tasks are effectively met.

Individuals in this position are expected to require very little supervision and mentoring and to work on a range of problems of diverse complexity where analysis of situations may require consultation with the Director IT Services. They possess a firm understanding of our test methodology and current testing techniques and a willingness to mentor their peers as needed.

Senior Application Testers will assume responsibility for more complex areas of the application and will assist the Director of IT Services in designing test cases for increasingly complex areas. At a more senior level, they are expected to have an in-depth knowledge of the application and to be able to test effectively at both the front end (UI) and back end (DB/Server/API) of an application.

Main Responsibilities:

-Senior Application Testers will be responsible for creating data and creating and executing test procedures (test cases) based upon the test designs.
-They will be responsible for accurately defining and executing test cases in multiple browsers and on multiple devices for:
-Functionality Testing
-Integration Testing
-Regression Testing
-Usability Testing
-UI Automation
-Automation testing
-And any other type of testing
as per test designs for web and mobile software.

As well they will:

For each type of test:
-Able to determine inputs and outputs using analytical methods (equivalence tests, boundary conditions etc.)
-Able to develop the functional test cases as per established quality methodologies and processes
-Develop additional tests as needed to achieve the specified coverage level including Automation Testing required.
-Execute SQL queries to retrieve data for test validation and verification

-Demonstrate a solid understanding of business concepts and system integration
-Ensure that test cases map to requirements and that the test cases will validate the requirement
-Create and execute test cases and document all test results as part of a larger quality assurance team and as per established QA policies and procedures
-Review the design and execution of test cases based upon business requirements and system requirements as done by others on the team.
-Develop comprehensive test strategies and designs for less complex areas of the product
-Determine test cases that need to be used for regression or that need to be developed.
-Where the need is required work in the role of Automation Tester. This includes the development of Automation test scripts and execution procedures.

All tasks should have a minimum of rework needed to achieve established quality objectives and should be delivered as per schedule.

All test cases and procedures must be detailed and concise enough to support other people involved in testing and documentation of the functionality, as well as supporting future maintenance. Automation procedures will be developed to ensure other members of the team may utilize them as needed by specific projects.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Participate in Defect Management:
-Log defects and provide mentorship to more junior members on logging defects
-Track defects associated with test results or customer issues, retesting defects as required and as assigned
-Work with developers to get defects resolved towards delivery of product releases
-Add test cases to regression tests suites when bugs are tested

-Participate in team status meetings
-Provide status updates to the Director of IT Services interim Test Coordinator as needed
-Structure own tasks to deliver against schedule and alerts Test Coordinator of any unplanned slippage as soon as it becomes evident.
-Ensure needed reviews/inspections/approvals of test designs and test cases are completed
-Applying technical skills related to the product being tested (knowledge of programming languages to software QA, knowledge of machinery for hardware, etc.)
-Other activities as assigned

Basic Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field, or commensurate professional experience.
-Minimum 5 years experience testing web and/or mobile application development and multi-tier architecture solutions
-Minimum 5 years experience backend testing applications such as servers or data warehouses
-Focus on quality by writing their own clear, concise functional, end-to-end and integration tests
-Clear understanding of established test methodologies and techniques in use by the QA department
-Good problem solving and analytical skills as well as strong written and oral communication skills.
-Good knowledge of databases such as Oracle, MS SQL Server and Access
-Understanding of relational database concepts including writing complex multi-table SQL queries
-Understanding of the full software development life cycle preferably in an agile development shop
-Experience working closely and collaboratively with designers, systems engineers, and software engineers in a remote development environment
-Strong time management skills and the ability to meet or exceed deadlines, with a proven track record of success.
-Ability to thrive in remote fast-paced and dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications:
-Proficiency in Java, C#, JavaScript (ES6), Angular 6+, and SASS or some other programming language
-Experience with iOS, Android, Mac, UWP, and Web app testing
-Experience with Restful API testing
-Experience with JIRA sprints
-Experience with test-driven development and automated testing (Protractor, Karma, Selenium, Cucumber, Watir)
-Experience with Adobe’s RMSDK, ePub3s, PDFs, DRM, and the EdTech industry
-Familiarity with front-end and back-end performance best practices
-Solid foundation in computer science including algorithms, data structures, and design patterns
-Ability to adapt swiftly with a willingness to undertake challenging tasks to ensure stakeholder satisfaction
-Experience shipping rich, consumer-facing websites using Angular or similar framework
-Experience with common software engineering tools and processes
-Ability to learn at a fast pace with working under stress
-Ability to work at pace whilst maintaining an accurate, high quality output
-Ability to contribute anywhere in the stack and wear multiple hats

Physical Requirements:
-This role requires sitting for most part of the day with occasional walking. Sporadic lifting/carrying (2 lbs to 25 lbs). Sporadic bending of knees and wrists. Constant use of hands/fingers for typing and data entry throughout the day.
-Some travel required each month to the Niagara office.
